An initiative of the OCSD Sanitary Sewer Overflow Mitigation Project

ALERT: Phase 1 of sewer lining work is near completion and, at this time, no additional sewer interruptions are expected due to this project. Other projects are expected to begin in the coming months. Please check back soon for more information as it becomes available.

Overview

Residents and business owners within portions of the Oneida County Sewer District will be asked to temporarily refrain from water use as crews work to rehabilitate local sewer mains.

What is being done?

Oneida County has contracted with Insituform Technologies, a specialized provider of sewer rehabilitation services, to install a new, jointless sewer pipe that minimizes root and water infiltration, improves flow, and provides for a more structurally sound pipe without the need for excavation. Temporary disruptions of sewer service in localized areas will be experienced as work is completed.

Please refer to the tentative schedule for an estimated work timeline. Please note that the dates and locations provided are estimates only and are expected to change. You will receive a notice from the contractor in your mailbox or on your door one week and 24 hours prior to work beginning. Please refer to those notices for the final work date.

The Details

Work on individual sewer lines will last approximately 8 hours. During this period, sewer service connections will be temporarily sealed off from the main line in the street and residents will be asked to limit the flow of wastewater into sewer lines to an absolute minimum in order to prevent backups into homes and businesses. This includes:
  • Refraining from using washing machines and dishwashers.
  • If you must shower; leave the water in the tub until service has been restored.
  • Disconnecting any sump pumps that are currently connected to the sanitary sewer system. Sump pumps that discharge into the back yard, drainage ditch, or a drainage pipe do not need to be disconnected.
